One of the most revered and coveted treasures brought from these mythical lands was tea. Our tea masters follow ancient tea blending principles that began with the earliest monks and herbalists. We blend premium organic loose teas, using only 100% natural flavourings because of their superior taste and earth friendly methods of extraction.
silk road was created in 1992 by two women who were taught the Chinese tea tradition and blending techniques by Chinese Tea Masters and Herbalists. Teas are thus prepared in the time honoured tea tradition. The silk road art of tea blending ensures that the character of the plant retains its essential harmony and is enhanced by the ingredients with which it is paired.
Also known as the birthplace of aromatherapy, the Silk Road became famous for the trade and manufacture of essential oils. Precious aromatic oils such as jasmine, sandalwood, rose, frankincense and myrrh traveled from the Far East to Europe.
Inspired by this ancient trading route and its sought after Eastern treasures, we continue the tradition by producing premium quality, 100% natural and organic aromatherapy body and skincare products.
We operate a retail store and spa located in Victoria's historic Chinatown, and offer educational workshops and tea tastings. The tea tastings are a lecture series modeled on a traditional wine tasting. Tea tastings cover a wide range of topics, including the cultural and historical aspects of tea, information on tea growing regions, the latest research on the health benefits of tea, and of course, an exploration into the exquisite flavours of tea.
silk road is a community minded company that actively supports many charitable, cultural and non-profit organisations, such as the Victoria Women's Transition House, the Inter-Cultural Association and the Victoria Art Gallery.
silk road prides itself on being a green company. We place a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility and pursue an environmentally friendly purchasing policy. Our environmental approach begins at the source by focusing on how the ingredients in our products are grown and continues all the way through to the packaging that is used.
We emphasize the use of minimal, eco-friendly materials in our packaging, as they represent a lesser impact on the environment. We package all of our products in fully recyclable containers and we advocate the importance of re-use in waste reduction. We encourage our retail customers and corporate accounts to reduce waste by offering discounts on product refill as an incentive. Our retail store wraps purchases in recycled paper and promotes the use of recyclable, re-usable gift bags and boxes instead of giftwrap.
